China helps boost Brazil’s iron ore transportation capacity

On September 23, Vale and Chenxin Heavy Industry (Jiangsu) Co., Ltd. signed an agreement on the supply of steel structures for the new railway bridge construction project on the Tocantins River in Brazil.

The agreement was signed in Shanghai by Antonio Cardoso, purchasing director of Vale China, and Shi Yunlong, chairman of Chenxin Heavy Industry. According to the agreement, Chenxin Heavy Industry will supply approximately 8,600 tons of steel structures to Vale to construct a new railway bridge over the Tocantins River in Brazil.

The new railway bridge over the Tocantins River has a total length of 2.3 kilometers and will be built over the Tocantins River in the city of Malabar, State of Pará. There is an old railway bridge over the Tocantins River, part of the Carajas Railway (EFC). The new railway bridge will be built 300 meters upstream of the old railway bridge, which will double-track sections 47-48 of the Carajas Railway.

The Carajas Railway is operated by Vale and connects Vale’s northern operating area in the Carajas region of the state of Pará with the Vale Port Madeira marine terminal in the city of Saint-Louis in the form of Maranhao. The main cargo transported by this railway is iron ore. The completion of the new railway bridge will enhance the transport capacity of the Carajás railway, improve the traffic flow of the railway and reduce business risks.

“Vale is working on a multi-pronged approach to restoring iron ore production capacity, so as to continue to supply high-quality iron ore products to China. Improving the logistics capacity of the northern system is one of our key measures to achieve our mid to long-term production goals. We are delighted to have A new Chinese partner join this important journey. We believe this will further consolidate our partnership with China that has lasted nearly half a century and will provide win-win cooperation between Brazil and China, the two BRICS countries Set another example.” Mr. An Kai said.

Shi Yunlong said that this cooperation will be an important turning point in the development of Chenxin Heavy Industry, which will enable Chenxin Heavy Industry to achieve important progress and improvement. He expects Chenxin Heavy Industry to become a strategic partner of Vale in the future.
